4River Road Canyon Jacket
By Darrin Loken
Pros: Well made and sturdy feeling, sizing is correct and fits nice, the armor hits at the right spots, nice liner, water repellent, warm in cooler weather, and well packaged.

Cons: Not enough ventilation for hot (100's) weather, zippers aren't YYK, and the pocket flaps aren't functional.

I decided to get a textile jacket after reading an article on long distance riding about how mesh jackets don't provide the necessary cooling when the temps get above 93 degrees. I've ridden with the jacket since mid-July 12 to the present. While there are plenty of textile jackets out there, there aren't many in a style I was looking for. After reading positive reviews on this jacket from people in places like Yuma AZ, I pulled the trigger. While I found the jacket to be well made and fits nice, the air flow wasn't what I was expecting. Specifically, the chest vents do not have mesh liners, but solid fabric which makes them more like pockets! The back vents d o have mesh liners though, which is what I was expecting. I have gotten around this by not zipping the front zipper and using the snaps only. I also leave the cuff unzipped, which opens up the cuff for more air flow. While the hot weather performance isn't what I was hoping for, it is excellent for temperatures from about 85 degrees down. I would guess with the liner one could ride with this down into the 40's-50's. My comment on the zippers and pocket flaps are really minor and just for information; the zippers seem to be fine. Overall, this jacket is very good and I'll hang on to it, but it really seems to be made for early and late season riding; not summer. If it wasn't for that I would have given it 5 stars.
